Canon 320D
What if Canon pulls a Nikon?
Remember Nikon D40 - the 6 megapixel puny camera! Apparently it was the differentiator that propelled Nikon to the top of Japanese digital SLR market in 2007. Nikon came in with 43.3% followed by Canon with 39.9%. And, there are no signs from Nikon about discontinuing the Nikon D40. Check this out…

Canon’s current Canon 400D (Digital Rebel XTi) is more a camera compared to the Nikon D40. Remember, Canon has promised to release more than one camera in the near future. The”near future” may be just the PMA 2008 or a few months after. Canon might as well spring a surprise like what Apple did today (Apple, in a very un-Apple like move, announced the new Mac Pro a week before the 2008 MacWorld. Read here).
Welcome Canon 320D!
We know that Canon has those sweet CMOS sensors right from 6 through 10 megapixel for the consumer digtal SLRs. All they have to do is the rev-up the DIGIC and the firmware and churn out some ultra-cheap cams. If Canon 320D was to be a 6-megapixel or even a 8-megapixel camera and nicely priced under $500, it would not be a bad move. It is a low hanging fruit for Canon and should help them regain the numero One position in Japan. And yes, they can call it Kiss or Love or whatever :-). Even better would be the 2008 Christmas season. Canon can afford to sell them for under $400 or $350 - a perfect stocking stuffer.
The rumblings are faint, but persistent. Let’s wait till January 24, 2008.
Canon has not discontinued the EOS 350D / Digital Rebel XT series. They are available in Silver and black and go for a little less than $400. What are the chances that this is going to be updated and called Canon EOS 320D?
