It seems like this lens is going to be sold independently from the very beginning. And, the cost of the lens is more likely to be around $400.

Good question. The answer is “initially”. It is probably a marketing move to simulate demand for the lens – something that has been done by Nikon with other products. This would force some users to buy the new camera or upgrade to it for this nice lens. After about 3-6 months you should see be able to buy this lens by itself. Of course all of this is hearsay and you should take it with a big grain of salt

How can it be “priced at $300″ AND “only available as a kit with the rumored Nikon D60″???
