Time-Lapse Photography

I was always intrigued as a child when I saw videos of flower buds blooming to beautiful flowers, seed germinating and growing to a full plant. I did not know the right term and always thought it was some special effects. Yes, in a way Time-Lapse photography is sort of, “Special Effects”.

With the proliferation of digital cameras, it is real easy to create your own time-lapse movies. The fundamental idea is to capture a number of images at a periodic intervals with your camera on a tripod. Once done, you can stitch the multiple images to a movie.

Here is a popular YouTube video by Mike Posehn, that shows the mass ascension at the 2006 Reno Balloon Race:

I’ve been experimenting with some time-lapse photography myself. If you promise to come around, I’ll explain the techniques and my experiences.
